Guide

Choosing a pull tester

Choose by two things: what you're testing, and the highest load you need to apply. Staht's testers run from 25 kN to 358 kN, with kits for anchors, eyebolts, scaffold ties, lifeline swages, in-line force, shear and rebar.

Testing must be done by competent people, following the relevant standard and the manufacturer's instructions. Our testers measure the load applied; they don't certify an anchor, fixing or installation.

Key figures

t25Up to 25 kN: anchors M6 to M16, eyebolts, scaffold ties
t60Up to 60 kN at under 25 Nm of torque: anchors M6 to M20
LT8 mm lifeline swages, up to 25 kN
In-line kitForce between two anchorage points, up to 25 kN
Shear test rigAnchors M6 to M20 in shear, up to 60 kN
Heavy duty kits176 kN (18 t) or 358 kN (36 t), large anchors and rebar

What am I testing?

  • Anchors, safety eyebolts and scaffold ties: the t25 or t60.
  • Swage terminations on 8 mm lifelines: the LT, with a t25 load cell.
  • Force between two anchorage points, such as fall protection posts, overhead lifting points and rail systems: the in-line kit, with a t25 load cell.
  • Anchors in shear, in concrete and masonry: the shear test rig, with a t25 or t60 load cell.
  • Large fixings, anchors and rebar: the heavy duty kits.
  • Ground screws: the TP60 ground screw kit, to 60 kN.
  • Reid Lifting davits: a t25 or t60 with the davit testing adaptor kit.

What load do I need?

Pick a tester whose range covers the highest load you'll apply: 25 kN for the t25, 60 kN for the t60, and 176 kN or 358 kN for the heavy duty kits. The t25 warns of overload at 30 kN.

Will it fit the anchor?

Threaded washers fit threaded anchors and studs, slotted washers fit headed bolts, and a clevis fits eyebolts. For threads bigger than M20, fit a threaded adaptor to the M16 drop rod. Where the standard bridge is too small, use a modular bridge with a 375 or 575 mm span.

How will I record the tests?

Every t25 and t60 pairs over Bluetooth with the free Staht Connect app, which records each test and makes the report. The heavy duty kits' G1 Pro gauge works with the Staht apps too.

Buy or hire?

For a one-off job, hire a t25 kit: £180 a week inc VAT, calibrated with its certificate. For regular testing, buy, and calibrate it each year.
