Testing must be done by competent people, following the relevant standard and the manufacturer's instructions. Our testers measure the load applied; they don't certify an anchor, fixing or installation.
At a glance
| Tension | t25 to 25 kN, t60 to 60 kN |
| Shear | Shear test rig, M6 to M20, to 60 kN |
| Large anchors and rebar | Heavy duty kits, 176 or 358 kN |
| Standards named in the brochures | BS 8539 (shear: clause 9.2), CFA guidance note 2024 |
How do I test an anchor in tension?
With a t25 or t60: fit the threaded or slotted washer for the anchor in the tool adaptor jaw, stand the bridge over it and apply the load.
How do I test an anchor in shear?
With the shear test rig and a t25 or t60 load cell. The chassis is fixed with four anchors (up to M12), spaced to typical UK and European brick centres. The sliding head has a PTFE gasket to reduce friction, a keyhole to watch the substrate and a datum boss for measuring displacement.
What about large anchors?
The heavy duty kits reach 176 kN or 358 kN.
Which standards are named?
The t25 and t60 brochures name BS 8539. The shear test brochure says the rig can be used for site testing as per clause 9.2 of BS 8539 and the CFA's Procedure for Site Testing Construction Fixings (2024), Appendix 1. See our standards guide.
